It’s the time of year for hearts, flowers and lots of red, pink and white! Valentine’s Day is the perfect celebration to get a little creative and make something for those we love…or to add a little Cupid kiss to our spaces!
These little Valentine pockets are super fast to make, easy and inexpensive!
I found packets of embossed Valentine Doilies at the Dollar Store. You get 30 in pack for a buck. The only other thing you need is some 1/8” ribbon, which you can also get at the craft store for under a $1.00. I’m so sorry I didn’t get a photo of the package of doilies…a little under the weather tonight!
To give the pockets a little strength, use two doilies for the front and two for the back. Place right side facing outward, with the white, inside part of the doilies together.
Start from the 9th opening on the side of the doily, bring your ribbon up through the first hole and thread your ribbon in and out of the openings all around the doily. Keep the ribbon on the roll and just gently pull through as you’re threading.
Stop threading at the same opening on the opposite side of the doily from where you started. Cut ribbon on both sides long enough to knot, tie a bow and allow the pocket to “hang” as long as you like. Tie the ribbon from each side evenly in a double knot and tie a bow. If you want to hang this, you’ll need to add a second piece of ribbon. Just thread through the first opening on each side, knot on the inside of the pocket and bring both sides of the ribbon up to your bow and know.
Put a little tissue paper inside the pocket to open it up and help keep it’s shape. Done! Super easy, right?
Of course, you can totally take this up a notch, too! Use whatever you have on hand! I made some in red, pink and white to give you some options…here’s what I did to mine.
I used tone on tone for the pink pocket, using pink ribbon, outlined the embossed LOVE with Stickles in Fruit Punch, ran a line of “Perfect Pearls” around the edge, made a little tassel out of the same ribbon and added a pink ribbon rose to the top and bottom. The tassel is a breeze to make! Just make 4-5 loops with your ribbon, tie it off tightly at the top, glue between the front and back layers on the bottom and trim.
For the red pocket, I used white ribbon, Stickles in Star Dust, a white tassel and white ribbon roses.
I think the white is my favorite! I decided to contrast the colors, with red ribbon, red stickles, and red paper roses.
Here are some ideas for using this cute little pockets. I wouldn’t overload them with too much weight… but you can…
Fill it with a little candy.
Put in a light little gift, like a cute pair of socks!
Tuck in a pink rose, some greens and bit of baby’s breath for a sweet Valentine greeting for a daughter, friend, sister…or use as a decoration.
My personal favorite and the first reason I decided to make these. Hang it on a stand and put in a battery operated tealight for your Valentine’s dinner table or party. A cute and inexpensive Valentine candleholder!
You can make seven pouches from one pack of doilies! Easy, fast and inexpensive Valentine doily pockets for gifts, décor, flowers or little glow for your Valentine’s dinner table or party.
If you make some, I’d love to see how you decorate them! Thank you so much for stopping by….it always makes my day!
