Ombre Ribbon Rose Topiary

Ombre Ribbon Rose TopiaryWhat do you do if you have a few hundred ribbon roses on hand? Make a Spring topiary! This one is a little less…what shall we say….wacky? It’s not like our topiary from last week! It’s a super easy topiary to make and actually looks kind of cute with the Cindy Lou {Who} topiary.

All you need for the topiary is a 5 inch Styrofoam cone, scissors and lots of ribbon roses in your choice of colors. Emme used to do a lot of floral design and I brought home a TON of ribbon roses. Since I had a lot of white, pale pink and mauve pink, ombre seemed the way to go!

Honestly? I didn’t count the exact number of roses. I think I went into a kind of hypnotic trance with all of the trimming and pushing roses into the Styrofoam. Actually, it was kind of relaxing! Well, at least up to the point where some of the cut wire flew on the floor, my trance was too deep to stop and pick it up and my husband stepped on it with bare feet. He’s learned to take one for the team!

I would guess there are about 400 roses, give or take. I trimmed each stem down, like this.

First I did the white layer.

Next, the pale pink layer – I had less of those, so you can see the layers are not even. It’s ok, right?

Last, the mauve pink layer. Done!

Here’s how the two topiaries look together.

My plan is to do two more different trees and then I can complete my pink, green and white Easter/Spring mantel. Hopefully, actually by Easter!

If you have any ribbon roses or other silk flowers on hand, try making a flower topiary, it’s easy and fun! Oh, I have a great idea for a summer version! I’ll share that one in July….the way this year is flying by, July will be here before we know it!

Hope your week is off to a great start and thanks so much for your visit today!

Hi Beth, My pleasure and thanks for YOUR visit! I got the biggest kick out of your comment, that was so cute! I would love to learn how make a cake that looks like this, but I don’t that’s happening! I can make flowers out of ribbon, paper, felt – but frosting just seems to elude me! Have a great week.

  10. Gorgeous! I’m catching up on your posts, Cindy as I haven’t been online as much as usual lately. Loving your spring trees!! Dying to make some myself but also feeling really inspired to have the little ones create some trees themselves.
