April showers bring May flowers – but the next few months also bring some very special celebrations and happy times. Mother’s Day. Graduations. Father’s Day. Weddings. Birthdays. Not to mention those just because you love someone days, which are really the very best of all! This is truly the most amazing gift that you give, get back and without question, will cherish for a life time.
About 5 years ago, I picked up this journal that caught my eye at Recollections – you may recall that incredibly awesome scrapbooking and friendship making store that sadly closed and I’m STILL grieving over. Anyway, the journal I bought is called between me and you, Mom…A Few Things I’ve Been Meaning To Ask. The book is filled with questions that the recipient is supposed to answer and then give the book back to you.
The questions cover topics such as When You Were A Kid, Your Youth, My Dad, What About Me, You, Now and Other Stuff. I actually almost forgot about it and gave it to my Mom on Mother’s Day two years ago with some other gifts. I kind of laughed when I gave it to her, said no big deal, take your time with this but that I would love, at some point, for her to write something in it and give it back to me.
Once again, with all of life crowding in around me, I didn’t really give this little book another thought. This past Christmas, my Mom handed me a final present and said with a smile, “I hope you like this.” I opened the box and there was the book…every single page filled with writing. My Mom told me that she couldn’t get over how much she enjoyed answering all of the questions and she hoped I enjoyed reading it just as much. She even said that she a little sad when it was completed; the questions brought memories to the surface that she didn’t even realize were there.
To say that I have been utterly and completely blown away by this book is an absolute and complete understatement. I read and re-read pages every night before I close my eyes and to be honest, just talking about it makes me begin to cry. It’s that incredible. The things I’ve learned about my Mom, my family, my Dad, who we lost when I was just fourteen, and what I’ve learned about myself, is more profound and moving than any words could even begin to adequately express. This is a book that will live on long past my Mom, or me. She even took the time to write a few pages specifically to each of my children and this is a legacy and a gift far more precious and lasting than I could ever have imagined. I can’t share much of the inside, as it is intensely personal. I love though, how my Mom wrote “I loved being a kid.”
These books are available online from Journals Unlimited and I feel like I found a second gift when I found them online. They have books for Son, Daughter, Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Honey and more. They cost $14.95. Friends, not to steal from MasterCard, but I do not say this lightly. The value is beyond priceless. I’m ordering one to do for my daughter and son. Journals Unlimited doesn’t know me at all, though I am grateful to them every single day.
Get one and give it to your Mom, your Dad, your child, a friend. It will come back to you in immeasurable ways and leave a tangible mark on your heart forever. It is a gift that you give and get back wrapped in a lifetime of memories and love.
It is unquestionably the best gift I’ve ever given – and received.
Have a weekend filled with joy!
