They say the eyes are windows to the soul – well, then our eyelashes are the curtains and we want those curtains to be noticed! Whether they’re blue, brown, hazel, grey or any beautiful combination of colors, our eyes have a lot to say. I say….let them say WOW in the easiest (and most inexpensive!) way possible.
False eyelashes are popular. Of course, they’re so much fun on a special occasion but for every day? Not so much or perhaps I’m just terrible at applying them. I seem to glue them on my eyelid, glue them on my eyeball (yikes!) or glue them so badly that pretty soon one or both migrate to some other location on my face. Once, Mr. Smarty Pants thought I had spider on my cheek and gallantly smacked it away and stepped on it. Sigh!
Three products get me the wow lashes I want AND the look lasts all day until I take it off! The process is quick and easy and has been my way to “wow” for many years.
The Ardell Heated Eyelash Curler is the first step! I’ve been using this eyelash curler for a few years and honestly, I can’t imagine living without it now! It uses two AAA batteries and heats quickly to a temperature that is warm enough to “curl” the lashes. Hold the curler in the heated position to warm before using on lashes. A green light will be lit, letting you know the product is heating. The silicon pad turns clear when it’s ready. Truly, though, I just hold the curler on heat for about 20 seconds. Curl the lashes just as you would with a regular eyelash curler and hold in place for 10-15 seconds. If you’d like more lift and curl, repeat until you’re happy! Amazon has the Ardell Heated Eyelash Curler available in a 3-pack for $12.97 and I always like to have several on hand in case one stops working. I’ve found, though, that the eyelash curler lasts for quite a long time and having to replace it typically is a result of user error, e.g., I’ve dropped it! I recommend changing the batteries carefully, as on occasion and in a rush, I’ve dislodged some critical, tiny component during a battery change. This is a must-be-in-my beauty bag product that gives fantastic results!
Once my eyelashes are heated and curled, I lightly dust them with Johnson’s Corn Starch Baby Powder. Yep, I just pour a little bit of powder in the lid of a jar, put a small amount on my finger and dust on my lashes, especially on the tips. This helps mascara to “stick” or adhere better to the lashes and helps the mascara from crumbling or flaking off. Another plus is that the powder helps with what I call “new mascara syndrome!” No matter the brand, I’ve found that every brand new tube of mascara is little too “fresh.” Sounds totally weird, but you know what I mean? Fresh mascara doesn’t plump up the lashes quite as well as one that we’ve been using for about a week or so. The baby powder really helps to set the mascara. Why do I use the corn starch baby powder? I use it as loose face powder! Inexpensive and great for oily skin!
This brings us to the last and most important step – mascara! Despite my proclamations about incessant beauty brand hopping, I have remained steadfast in my loyalty to one brand of mascara since I was old enough to swipe my Mom’s, and that was way ago! I’ve used different types over the years, but will always love Maybelline! I use black and waterproof! I started with Great Lash (still awesome!) in my teens and today I’m loving The Falsies Volume Express and Lash Stiletto. I use two, both on the top lashes and Lash Stiletto on the bottom. I highly recommend either one. I know there are tons of amazing mascaras on the market – Maybelline just does it right, I believe, and is easy on the wallet.
One last tip – I KNOW everyone says you shouldn’t use an eyelash curler after applying mascara, but guess what? I do! Once the lashes are totally dry, you can get one last bit of wow with a gently press of a regular eyelash curler. Go for the Shu Uemura, it’s totally worth the extra $$ and lasts!
Heat, corn starch baby powder and mascara – my quick and easy way to wow lashes as gorgeous as our eyes! That’s what’s in my beauty bag today – what’s your favorite mascara?
I don’t have any association with these brands – just love using them – all together!
