Snowman Gift Boxes – With A Secret!

Snowman Gift Boxes - With A Secret! An adorable way to give a small gift or money, with a smile and secret message! From littlemisscelebration.comIt’s December! We’re decorating, baking, trimming the tree, shopping, wrapping gifts and and visiting family and friends! Speaking of wrapping, all those gifts have to go in a box or a bag. Doesn’t it seem like when we need a little box, we never have one? Since you know how much I love snowmen – and a gift with a gift – these little paper mache boxes are a perfectly adorable way to package up a small gift. These Snowman Gift Boxes – With A Secret! – are easy and so much fun to transform! Ahh, what’s the secret, you ask? We’ll get to that in just a bit!

We have a joke in our house about my “box of boxes.” I have a giant packing box filled with boxes inside of boxes. My mom and I even have some special, old boxes that we give back and forth each year. Some of them are almost 100 years old! Mr. Smarty Pants likes to joke, “What, you don’t have a box in the box of boxes to box up your gift?” Yes, and I give the yearly Christmas sigh! :)

Here’s what you need and how to make the snowman boxes!

  • Set of 4 paper mache snowman boxes, from Jo-Ann
  • White and Black Acrylic Paint
  • One bunch of red berries (with different sized berried)
  • ¼ Green satin ribbon
  • Permanent black marker
  • Red card stock and small heart punch
  • Pink chalk or blush
  • Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks

Paint the entire outside of the snowman boxes and lids with white acrylic paint and also the inside of the lids. Give the boxes two coats of paint and let dry.

Paint the hat with black acrylic paint. Use the end of a paintbrush to dot the eyes with black paint and a touch of white paint. I thought it would be fun to give the snowmen bright, cherry red noses! Snip a small or medium sized berry from the bunch and cut the wire off so that the berry will sit fairly level. Use hot glue to adhere the nose to the snowman face.

Draw eyebrows and mouth with a black permanent marker. Add little chilly cheeks with pink chalk or blush. Punch a small heart from red cardstock, and adhere to the snowman body. Add a few lines with black marker on each side of the heart. Make a small bow from the green ribbon and glue to snowman’s neck.

Ok….ready for the secret? Put a special “snow” message inside the lid!

  • You are Snow special!
  • Love you Snow much!
  • Snow glad we’re friends!

I’ll stop now!! You get the idea – it will make any gift snow extra-special. (I couldn’t resist!) Everyone loves cash, though I always think it’s a little…impersonal. Pleat the bill(s), tie a ribbon around it, put a special message on the lid and pop the $ in a snowman box. Now we’re talking!

  3. What a great idea! Who wouldn’t love to get a little gift in one of these? Plus, I think I need to get myself a box of boxes going. Silly me, I keep recycling them and then can’t find the right box when I need it!

    • Hi Courtenay! Oh thank you much, I’m so happy you like these little guys! Do the “box of boxes” – it sounds a little weird, but it totally works! :) Thank you so much for visiting and I hope your week is merry and happy!

  4. Well that’s just snow cute!! You’re snow special too, hugs!!

  5. Snow cute!!! hehe, I couldn’t resist! Your box problem, er, obsession is funny. I have a slight basket and box obsession but doesn’t sound like as many as you have. I love pretty boxes and these are adorable! Except I never want to give mine away.
    Pinned and buffered!

    • Thanks, Paula – I’m definitely thinking about keeping one of these, because I kinda love them! :) The box obsession is a little much, I admit, but I love that Joan made me think of it as “recycling!” Thanks so much for your visit, pin and buffer, which I appreciate even more during the busy holiday season! Have a merry and happy day!

  6. uh oh…looks like i’m gonna LOVE everything you make Cindy cuz i’m kinda new to your blog and have LOVED everything you made so far! YIPPEE! actually it’s snow problem for me at all :>D! and those cute little berry noses? dang they won me over!

    • Lisa, you are so sweet and just make me smile! Thank you so much for you fun visit during this busy time of the year – and for starting my day with a big smile! :) Hope you are having a happy week and thank you!!

  7. Such an awesome idea Cindy, I love it! I also love snowmens and yours are too cute! This is a great solution for small gifts.

    • Angie, thank you so much and I’m happy that you like these! So sweet of you to visit and I’m even more appreciative when I know how busy everyone is! Hope you are having a happy week!

  8. Thank you so very much for sharing this! I love this project because it allows me the opportunity to place personalized message in the box. We all get gift boxes of different kinds, but rarely with a message that is sweet and comes from the heart!–Deb (DialMforMoms.com)

    • Oh, thanks, Deb, what a sweet comment! I wanted to do something that could make a small gift and especially a money gift, a little more special. I’m so happy that you like it and I really appreciate your kind visit during this busy season! Hope you are having a happy and merry week!

  9. Cindy, These snowmen boxes are darling…I love the red noses! Kudos to you and your Mom for recycling Christmas boxes before recycling was cool. I’m off to pin now!

    • Oh, thanks, Joan! So sweet of you to visit and pin, and I appreciate it even more during such a busy time of year! :) It’s so kind of you to refer to the box thing as recycling, I am so telling a certain someone that! :) Hope you are having a happy and wonderful week!

  10. Oh my goodness – how cute! I love this idea! Pinning – thank you!

  11. Coming over from DBB and pinning it!

  12. Oh, Cindy, your Mr. Snowman box is such fun! I adore his sweet little patchwork heart! Your story about your mom trading gift boxes back and forth is so sweet and so precious.

I am bad about “hoarding” regular cardboard boxes. When I get a shipment from Amazon or somewhere, I am as delighted with the box as I am with the contents (well, almost!). You never know when you will need to pack something up, or send something home with the kids! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. ;)

    • Hi Joy! Thank you-I’m happy you like these cute little guys. Why does it not surprise me that we another thing in common? :) My mom is so funny about the boxes – every holiday, she checks to make sure I haven’t used them for gifts “outside of the family” lol. Heaven forbid! I’ve already put my kids on alert they need to keep this box thing going! I’m backing you on your story, no doubt about it!! Hope you are having a merry and happy week, my friend! Hugs! xo

  13. Adorable Cindy! Adding to my buffer :)

    • Hi Andi! Thank you so much – I so appreciate the visit and the share – especially given how busy we all are! Hope you are having a happy week!

  14. adorable! And special boxes almost 100 yrs old?! I’m intrigued. That’s sounds like a wonderful tradition you and your mom share. Let Mr. Smarty Pants sigh all he wants;)
    cheers

    • :) Thanks, Therese! Yes, we have holiday gift boxes that my grandparents had from probably the 20′s, and every year my mom checks in to make sure I still have them. Thanks so much for visiting during a such a busy time! Hugs!

  15. Awwh these have to be the cutest Christmas gifts ever! Seriously, they look lovely!
    Have a great week :)

    • Hi Consuelo! Oh, thank you so much! You are so sweet to visit and I appreciate doubly because I know how busy everyone is! :) Hope all is well and you are having a happy week!

Hope all is well with you, too, especially since we are all on overload this time of year. Have a wonderful Thursday!
