Remember how much fun Valentine’s Day was at school when we were kids? I loved getting the Valentine’s ready to hand out to friends and teachers, and also bringing home a big stack of Valentine’s I had received. Let’s see, did I get one from that cute little boy I had a crush on in the first grade? Anyway….I was pretty excited recently to find a book of retro Valentine’s tucked away in a box that had belonged to my mother-in-law. We’re making a fast but cute card that takes us back to days gone by with this Retro 3-D Valentine + Printable.
There’s nothing on this book that tells us when it was printed. The title says 50 3rd Dimensional and Stand-up Valentines – plus it has darling matching envelopes and sticker seals. Check out the price!! 39 cents! I’m thinking this book has to be from the 1950’s. What do you think?
All of these Valentines are too cute, but I fell especially in love with the boy and girl sharing an ice cream soda. I’ve just got a super, soft spot for anything retro or vintage and the sentiment is so sweet – Need A Valentine? Soda I!
Let’s turn this little cutie into a card! All you need is:
- One 6” x 5 ½ “ plain white card (or cardstock cut to size and folded in half)
- Valentine Printable (download Retro Valentine Printable)
- Red Stickles or red sparkle marker
- Two red & white striped straws
- Craft glue and scissors
Download the printable, print and cut out the heart and the ice cream soda with tabs. There are two lines on the heart, which indicate slits. Using a craft knife, make two small slits on the lines, as shown in the photo below. Cut out the ice cream soda. Fold on the dotted lines.
Insert the ice cream soda into the slits on the heart and glue the tabs together in the back. Let dry. Now it’s 3-D!
Glue the heart onto the center of the card. To give the heart a little pop, outline with red Stickles or with a sparkle red marker.
Cut each red and white striped straw to 6 ¼”. Using craft glue, glue a straw to the top and bottom of the card and let dry.
Done! A sweet, little retro, 3-D Valentine, perfect for just about anyone! Who would you give this card to?
