Ironing – it’s something we all do, either a little or a lot. Some people love it, some hate it and others – they’re a little obsessed with it. Me? Well, if your hubby hiding some of his clothes so you DON’T iron them is any clue, I definitely am one of the ironing obsessed. When Hamilton Beach recently provided me with the opportunity to try out the Durathon® Electronic Iron, it was the very same day that my own iron puffed it’s last, steamy breath. Hamilton Beach provided me with the iron, but all opinions are completely my own. When’s it comes to my iron, I can be one tough cookie! I was ready with a mass of wrinkles to get steamed with the Hamilton Beach Durathon® Iron.
So what does an ironing obsessed person look for in an iron? I definitely have my own list of must-haves!
- The iron should produce amazing, continuous, get-out-of-the-way steam!
- It should have enough heft to really press fabric, but be light enough to work comfortably.
- An iron should have a great, smooth soleplate with lots of ironing real estate!
- There should be a generous opening to fill the iron with water and a tightly locking closure so there are no leaks.
- I want my iron to clearly indicate where the top water fill line is and be able to easily see when the water is getting low.
- Did I mention it should really, really steam?
My iron arrived and I heard my family whispering. She’s so picky. She’s been in such a mood because she’s had to use that little back-up iron. (It’s actually the back-up to the back-up; the back-up got ruined in an overheated, ruined pants fiasco. Story for another day!) I took the iron out of the box and was pleasantly surprised; it felt well weighted on the bottom and easy to hold and move at the same time. Check one!
The soleplate is a nonstick surface and not shiny. At first glance, I was slightly dubious because I worried that the number of “holes” on the soleplate might not produce enough steam. My ironing board and pile of wrinkled garments was ready to go and it was time to put the soleplate to the cotton!
An unexpected feature that I really appreciate is the retractable cord! The cord easily retracts back into the iron at the touch of a button. My iron stays out on my ironing board and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tripped over the cord. Now, no more tripping – at least, not on my iron cord. I opened the lid to fill the water chamber and ahh…a nice sized opening to pour in the water and no drips down the side. The lid to the chamber closed firmly with a satisfying snap. Check two and three!
YES, the fill line for the water is clearly marked AND it’s very easy to see how much water is in the iron. Check, check! I plugged it in and adjusted the temperature, which is so easy to do via a button on the handle, which I like so much better than the dial adjustment on my old iron. As the iron heated up, I was kind of holding my breath for the final – and biggest – tests.
The iron glided easily and smoothly over heavily wrinkled, 100% cotton shirt but what really caught my attention was the steam! Definitive, wonderful and continuous steam. When I lifted the iron up and pushed the steam button, whoa! It was easy to see the amazing steam the iron produced. Was I a happy lady? Check, check and check!
I actually felt inspired by Hamilton Beach’s philosophy of Good Thinking and finding answers to solve everyday problems. I may iron every single day, but my pile of things to be ironed is a little disorganized. Ok, a lot disorganized! To get my whole ironing life in order, I made this hanging “Get Steamed” ironing bag, using letters cut from felt. I’ll share a how-to on this project soon, but I am loving my place to store clothes to be ironed AND my great Durathon® iron.
I’m so happy that Hamilton Beach has provided another Durathon® iron to give away to one of you! Even if you don’t need an iron right now, you always need a back-up – and your current iron just might become your back-up iron once you try the Durathon®. I’m also adding in a $20.00 Amazon e-gift card; get an ironing bag, a new ironing board cover or whatever you need to get ironing ready!
Thanks so much for visiting. Have a wonderful day and good luck!
