Ladybug Button & Bling Denim Tote

With a ready-made tote, some buttons, ribbon & crystals, it's easy to make a cute Ladybug Button & Bling Tote! At littlemisscelebration.comCan we ever have too many tote bags? We’re always lugging stuff around and Moms carry around everything but the kitchen sink! With some buttons, ribbon and a ready-made tote bag, it’s easy to make Mom a fun bag for Mother’s Day. This Ladybug Button & Bling Denim Tote lets Mom carry just about anything with a touch of cute, sparkle and luck!

Just about everyone likes ladybugs! Not only are they adorable, we know they’re really beneficial little insects. A lot people believe that ladybugs bring good luck, me included! It never can hurt to carry a little extra luck around!

Years ago, I bought a crafting tool called Gem Magic from QVC – it’s kind of like a BeDazzler. It’s a little machine that permanently sets studs & crystals on fabric and other materials. You can use a permanent stud setter or Hot-Fix Crystals to add a little sparkle to this project.

Supplies:

  • One denim tote bag, 15” wide – I bought these last year at Michael’s
  • Two packages of ladybug buttons, 12 per pack, by Dress It Up
  • Six yards ribbon of your choice – I used a pink, grosgrain ladybug printed ribbon from my ribbon stash
  • 48 small crystal gems, BeDazzler, Gem Magic or Hot Fix
  • Needle & thread
  • One pin back
  • Fabric Glue or Fabric Mod Podge and brush

Sew ladybug buttons to both front and back of tote bag, turning them in different directions. Spread them across entire width of bag or in any pattern you like. Add a small crystal to either side of each ladybug button.

Using either fabric glue or fabric Mod Podge, glue the ribbon along the top and around the entire perimeter of the tote bag. Let dry. You could also machine-sew the ribbon.

Add a bow that’s removable for washing! Make a four-loop bow approximately 6” wide with 6” tails. Sew a pin back to the back of the bow and pin the bow at an angle to one side of tote bag. The bow can be removed when the bag needs to be hand washed.
