Button Cupcake Art Birthday Gift

An easy button kit, a wooden frame and some embellishments, and you've got an adorable, calorie-free Button Cupcake Art Birthday Gift! At littlemisscelebration.comFellow craft lovers, tell me you understand this! You walk into a craft store and your inner craft radar kicks into high gear. Inexplicably, that radar leads you automatically to whatever in the store is brand new – or new to you! :) Yep, that just happened to me when I found this adorable button kit at JoAnn. This Button Cupcake Art Birthday Gift is a too-cute (and calorie-free!) handmade gift for a birthday girl, or for anyone who just loves cupcakes.

We are celebrating my daughter’s birthday this week and I’ll be in so much trouble for sharing this, but I’ve called her cupcake since she was a little. When I saw this kit by Crafting with Buttons, I just knew I had to make it and include it with her birthday gifts.

Everything you need comes in the kit except for glue. The MDF board is printed with the cupcake shape and there are buttons and beads. Grab some Gem-Tac glue and if you have them, a pair of craft tweezers. It helps to hold the buttons while you add glue to the back and place the buttons on the board. I used a toothpick to add a thin layer of glue to the buttons.

After gluing the large buttons, you add the smaller buttons on top, filling in the open areas. It looks like this!

The little seed beads are to fill in all the exposed nooks and crannies. I decided to outline the entire cupcake with beads. Put glue in the nooks and press in the beads. For the outline, I worked in small sections and with tweezers, placed the beads all around the cupcake shape. For a little extra sparkle, I added a dot of Stickles glitter glue to the holes of the large buttons, Fruit Punch on the pink and Eucalyptus on the green. The piece is done and it looks like this!

The finished piece fits into an 8” x 10” frame. To frame it, I used an inexpensive, black wooden frame. I added adhesive-backed, polka-dotted ribbon by American Crafts to the front of the frame. A few birthday embellishments by Recollections at Michaels were added to the corners of the frame and the gift is ready!

I just LOVE this and it was so much fun to make! It really was very easy and only took an afternoon. I let it dry overnight and popped it into the frame the next day.

I had such a blast with this cupcake that I was totally inspired to create my own button project! I’m working on a fall button project right now and fingers crossed that it actually turns out as good as it looks in my head, lol!

Have you made any button projects? What do you think of this cupcake button art? This was a very easy project that turns out so sparkly and pretty!
