Pucker up, lemon lovers! Frozen treats are a little oasis on a warm day and it’s so easy to make your own Homemade Lemon Ice. This ice is so refreshing, especially on a hot day and makes a fabulous, frosty dessert with big lemon flavor!
If you’ve been hanging out with me for a while, you know I’m a big lover of all things lemon. I’ll take my lemon in just about form I can get it and that includes frozen. Homemade lemon ice is so easy to make and this is no shy, quiet, unassuming lemon treat. It’s more like a POW; whoa that’s really lemon, frozen treat. I’m sure my fellow lemon devotees would agree that we wouldn’t want it any other way, right?
It only takes three ingredients to make this sweet and tart frozen delight – water, lemons & sugar. Well, we’re using lemon juice AND lemon zest, so I guess technically it’s four but two come from the ingredient. It takes about four large lemons to get one cup of lemon juice and two lemons for the zest.
Once the mixture is ready to pour into a loaf pan and put into the freezer, stir mixture about every thirty minutes while it’s freezing and you’ll get a nice, smooth texture. Your pucker frozen dessert is ready in about four hours and you can dig in! Whatever is not eaten right away, you can store it a couple of different ways. Wrap the loaf pan tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil. If you prefer, you can cut the ice into cube sized portions, place the cubes in a glass bowl, wrap tightly in plastic and foil and keep in the freezer. Usually, I like to keep it in the loaf pan and scoop out with a small ice cream scoop.
Lemon ice makes a nice, refreshing dessert after a spicy or heavy meal. Serve it as scoops or cubed in chilled dessert glasses. Whether serving it formally or as any anytime treat, top it with a twist of lemon zest. Scoop it into paper ice cream cups or even in an ice cream cone!

- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon peel (about 2 large lemons)
- 1 cup of fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons)
- Combine water and sugar in a medium saucepan; stir until sugar is melted and bring to boiling.
- Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minute.
- Remove saucepan from heat. Stir in lemon peel and lemon juice.
- Allow lemon mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Pour lemon mixture into a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan and place in freezer.
- Freeze for 3-4 hours, stirring ice every 30 minutes.
- Serve ice in chilled dessert dishes, paper ice cream cups or in ice cream cones.
- Wrap leftover ice tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil or cut into cubes, place in a bowl and wrap tightly. Store in freezer.
