Take a sparkly red, white & blue walk in these fun Stars & Sequins Flip Flops! Inexpensive white flip flops are so easy to transform into festive holiday footwear with red, white & blue sequins and wooden stars. You’ll be patriotic right down to your tootsies!
Since we’ve made lots of patriotic projects to deck our homes in red, white and blue, I thought we should wrap up July 4th, 2015 with something we can wear! I just love flip flops on summer weekends and thought it would be fun to have a pair that would be perfect for the holiday, with a little red, white and blue sparkle. From cookouts, to pool parties, a day at the beach and a nightcap of family and fireworks, you be walking in patriotic style!
Start with any pair of white flips flops. I picked up a pair at Old Navy for $1! I found 8mm cupped sequins in red, white and blue at Hobby Lobby. Using craft tweezers and Gem-Tac Glue – which I really need to purchase by the GALLON – add a thin layer of glue to the back of the sequin and add them to the “strap” portion of the flip flop, overlapping slightly. In less than 30 minutes, your flip flops are sequined and shiny! Set them aside to dry.
You could stop right there but let’s add some stars! I used 1 1/2” wooden stars, which come in pack of ten at Michaels. I gave the stars two quick coats of white paint. Once the paint was dry, I added one red, white & blue sequin to each star. Using Gem-Tac on the back of the stars, one was added to the front of each flip flop. Test it on your foot first to make sure you glue the star where it won’t interfere with your foot! Let the shoes dry overnight and they’re ready to shine on the 4th!
Aren’t they totally adorable? I love them! In case you might be wondering why I didn’t take a photo of them actually ON my feet – well, I have to tell you, I am in desperate need of a pedicure. Desperate! I’ll definitely make sure I’ll have my toes worthy of these cute flip flops with some bright, red polish in time for the holiday!
I had so much fun making these flip flops that I’ve been working on some other fun summer versions, so look for them sometime in July! These would be fun to make for the whole family. Ok, well the girls, anyway. Having a pair of patriotic flip flops for the 4th is awesome. Seeing the look on hubby’s face when I asked him if he wanted me to make HIM a pair – priceless! 🙂
So happy for your visit – have a great day!
