There’s no question about it, Dads have stuff, too! Like keys, wallet, cell phone, change, just for starters. Let’s help him get a little organized at the end, and the beginning of the day, with this Drop It! Paper Mache Bowl for Dad. It’s a great little, made by you gift perfect for Father’s Day!
I don’t know how things are at your house, but it still surprises me how my hyper-organized hubby comes home at the end of the day. Keys drop here. Wallet drops there. Cell phone goes…well, that’s usually a mystery. The next morning, it’s “Hon, have you seen my wallet? I can’t find my cell phone!” You get the idea. This ever happen at your house? Amazingly, though, hubby always has that remote permanently attached to his hand! ? I ask you, why is it THAT never gets misplaced?
Since we made a Paper Mache box for Mom, it seemed only fair to make something equally fun and functional for Dad! A roomy, Paper Mache bowl, large enough to hold ALL Dad’s stuff, is easily transformed with paint, Washi tape and brads. A color pallet of copper and gold adds a touch of sophistication; paint one in colors your Dad or hubby would like. A little “Drop It!” message in the bottom of the bowl – well, that’s a gentle reminder!
Here’s what I used:
- Paper Mache scalloped edge bowl from Create For Less
- Martha Stewart Paint in Cooper and Gold
- Recollections Washi Tape in white with gold dots, from Michaels
- 24 gold brads
- White foam letters or letters of your choice to spell Drop It!
- Low-temp hot glue gun and glue sticks, paint brush and button shank remover to remove backs of brads
I painted the outside of the bowl, alternating the panel colors, with two coats each of copper and gold. The inside of the bowl was painted in two coats of copper. Don’t worry about a perfect paint line between the panel colors. We’re covering the panel ridges with Washi tape.
I snipped the fasteners off the back of the brads with a button shank remover so they would sit flat. Using low-temp hot glue, three brads on each outside panel of the bowl along the top of the curve.
White, foam letters spelling “Drop It!” were glued to the inside of the bowl. To make the letters pop, I added a bit of Gold Stickles to each letter.
To finish off the bowl, I added a line of Washi tape along each ridge between the panels. We’re done!
A special bowl just for Dad can help him keep all his stuff together in one place. What do you think? Do you have a guy in your life who could use a Drop It! bowl? How would you decorate this bowl?
I’m working on another gift idea for Dad that I hope to share with you next week. So happy that you stopped by today – enjoy your day!
