DIY Snowman PVC Candle Covers

Since we made a few Thanksgiving projects at the end of October, I’m totally ready for us to move on to Christmas and hope you are, too! Do you remember the Candy Corn PVC Candle Jackets we made for Halloween? It’s time for a Christmas version! There are tons of ways to decorate these covers, but if you love snowmen as much as I do, you’ll love these easy, adorable DIY Snowman PVC Candle Covers. Whether we put candles in our windows, on the mantel or anywhere in the house, these easy candle covers take candles from ordinary to charming, winter wonderland!

Use any electric or battery-operated candles you have on hand. I decided to pull out the old, single plastic candoliers I bought for our first Christmas. I’ve upgraded my candles in the last thirty years, but hung onto these for sentimental reasons. Since they have a nice wide base, there’s some extra decorating real estate!

Here are the supplies I used to make the snowman candle jackets:

• Length of 1” PVC pipe (from Lowe’s)
• Hacksaw and coarse sanding block
• Electric or battery-operated candles
• DecoArt Acrylic Gesso & acrylic paints in white, black & orange
• Black felt
• Pink chalk or blush
• About 12” of faux greenery, ¼” red satin ribbon and small ornaments of your choice – I used little candy canes & small red glass ornaments
• Paint brush, fine tip black permanent marker, pencil, hot glue & glue sticks

Just like we did for the Halloween candles, measure the candle portion of your electric or battery-operated candle, since they are different sizes! Mark off the number of lengths you need on the PVC pipe and cut to size with a hacksaw. Use a coarse sanding black to sand the cut ends as smooth as possible. Paint each piece of cut PVC pipe with a coat of white gesso and two coats of white acrylic paint.

To leave room for the hat, we’re going to start the face about 4” from the top of the candle. I used a pencil to draw an easy, free-hand face. Ovals for the eyes, a carrot shape for the nose that goes to the right, eyebrows & a mouth. The pencil drawing looked like this!

Use black acrylic paint to paint the eyes, eyebrows and mouth. Paint the carrot nose orange and once dry, outline the nose with permanent black marker and add a few little lines. With the marker, add eyelashes. Add some rosy cheeks with pink chalk! With the end of a paintbrush, add dots of white paint to the top and bottom of each eye and one to each cheek for highlights.

On the hats! Cut two pieces of black felt 5” wide x 2 ¾” long. Cut two 3 ½” circles and cut a 1” circle from the center; this will be the hat brim. Place the painted PVC snowman on your candle. Wrap the 5” piece of felt around the PVC, lining it up with the top of the candle, and hot glue together in the back. Gently pull the felt brim down over the “hat” – it should be snug enough to fit without any glue.

You can decorate the hats any way you like! I added a sprig of faux greenery, a tiny wire candy cane and a red bow.

Decorate the bottom of the candle, too! I wrapped about 5” of faux greenery around the base of the candle, added a larger candy cane ornament, a small red glass ornament and bow of red ribbon with polka dots. The sweet little candles are done!

I’m just as tickled as a snowman’s rosy cheek with how cute these turned out. Don’t you think they are just so adorable? I’m going to try to juggle around my mantel decorations this year and add these little cuties!

PVC candle covers are a great project and a fun, inexpensive way to breathe some new holiday life and love into old, unused candles!
