Cupcake Liner St. Patrick’s Day Trees

Create a happy forest for the leprechauns! These Cupcake Liner St. Patrick’s Day Trees are super easy to make. Green & white striped cupcake liners are pinned to Styrofoam cones; sparkly ribbon and a shamrock make cute tree toppers. Change up the toppers after St. Patrick’s Day and these trees can be part of your décor all through spring.

We had quite the weekend! The forecast called for 3-5” inches of snow on Saturday but Old Man Winter had other ideas and decided to leave us nearly a foot of the white stuff instead. Sunday was all about shoveling out and fortunately, it warmed up quite a bit so we had a lot of melting. A cold, snowy day needed some happy crafting with a spring touch! These fun cupcake liner trees went together fast and made me forget about the snow…until I had to shovel, of course!

The St. Patrick’s Day themed cupcake liners, Styrofoam cones, ribbon and glittered shamrock stickers all came from Michaels. I used one 9” and two 5 7/8” cones. If you’ve never used cupcake liners to make little topiary trees, it’s so easy! All you have to do is cut the paper liner up the side and cut out the center of the liner, so we’re just using the outside portion of the cupcake liner.

Working from the bottom of the cone, simply attach the liners to the Styrofoam cone with straight pins. Make sure you have a lot of pins! Layer the liners, leaving as much of the previous layer showing as you like. On the bottom layers, you’ll need two liners to go all the around the cone. Just trim off any extra from the second piece. Add liners all the way to the very top of the cone. For the final layer, cut a piece of liner to fit on the top, extending beyond the top of the cone. Use a bit of glue to hold the paper together and glue it to the top of the tree.

I used some 3/8” green ribbon with sparkly white shamrocks for the tree topper. Here’s a fun tip! Give ribbon that is not wired body and shape with Mod Podge. Bruch the back of the ribbon with a thin layer of Mod Podge and let it dry. The ribbon will be flexible but firm and maintain its shape, so no droopy ribbon!

I made a four-loop bow for the smaller trees and six-loop box for the big tree. A glittered shamrock sticker was added to the center. Wire was added to the back of the ribbon; to attach the topper to the tree, I just pushed the wire into cone. Done!

Not only are will these fun, green & white striped trees bring a little touch of St. Patrick’s Day to the house, I’m absolutely planning to make new toppers and add these to my mantel for spring! You know I love crafts that can do double-duty!
