How about eggs with Easter bonnets? Craft eggs, rhinestones and pearls become Gemhead Egg Girls – a stylish, fun and ridiculously adorable holiday gift or Easter dinner favor all the girls will love!

When I was a little girl, getting our Easter outfit always included a pretty, spring hat. I still love hats! Memories of Easter from days gone by and one of my favorite old movies, Iving Berlin’s, Easter Parade, were the inspiration for these gemhead egg girls. When one of my friends saw these, she said they were “ridiculously adorable” and could she please have a dozen? ? I’m totally in love with these sweet little egg girls!

The eggs are really easy to make. Michael’s has these great craft eggs that look like real eggs and are even packaged in an egg crate. I used these for our girls!

Choose your favorite colors of rhinestones. I used blue, pink and clear 7MM round acrylic rhinestones from Darice. Each egg took about 74 rhinestones. It sounds like a lot, but with a pair of tweezers and Gem-Tac glue, attaching the rhinestones goes quickly! Set the egg in a glass while you work. Start at the top and glue rhinestones about 1 ¼” down, all around the egg. The rhinestones will not completely butt up against one another, so we get kind of gemmed, crochet look.

It’s an Easter bonnet, so there has to be a flower, right? To give the flower a little sass and whimsy, it’s attached to a curled wire. Wrap some very fine, green craft wire about 12 times around a corsage pin. Take a paper or silk flower in a color to coordinate with the hat and glue the wire to the back of the flower. Once the glue is dry, attach the wire to the hat with glue and bend the wire gently to the side.

Our girls need some pearls to complete their Easter look! Their pearl “necklaces” double as egg stands. Cut 4mm pearl trim (pre-strung) to fit the bottom of the egg, leaving two pearls as a tail on each end. Cross the two-pearl tails and add Gem-Tec to glue. Glue the pearl necklace to the bottom of the egg.

Use fine-tipped, black & red permanent makers to add features. The girls have so many admirers, they’re closing their eyes and blushing! ? Add blush and a little eye shadow with chalk. The gemhead egg girls are done and ready for the Easter parade – or to grace a basket, box or dining room table!

Seriously, how cute are these?? Yes, these eggs are all about the girls, but I think even Mr. Smarty Pants likes them. He’s asked me at least ten times, “Do people like the egg girls?” I’ve patiently answered an equal number of times that I haven’t shared them yet, dear! Hmm… think I need to make a version for the guys!

I’m reminded of a few lines from the song, Easter Parade,:

“In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.”

Don’t you think these little ladies will just steal the Easter show? Well, after US of course! ?
