Add a pop of Halloween personality to these Light-Up Stacked Wood Pumpkins! With some paint, a piece of your favorite holiday scrapbook paper and a bit of glitter, turn on the flashing lights and let these charmers bring a little Halloween glow to your home!
As soon as I saw this sweet surface of stacked pumpkins at Michaels, I wanted them immediately! The fact that they lit up, with a fun, multi-colored flashing light, was totally icing on the Halloween cake! ? There are plenty of ways to finish these cuties; I wanted the front of the surface to be covered with a great piece of scrapbook paper from my stash. You can totally use paper, even with the cut-outs in the wood and I’m going to share how I did it.
First, I gave the entire surface of the pumpkins two coats of acrylic orange paint, and gave the base of the piece two coats of black paint and let it dry.
Once the paint was dry, I placed the piece, face down, on the back side of my piece of scrapbook paper. Since the piece has a base, to get it completely flat on the paper, pull the paper and the wood piece to the edge of a table or work surface. Using a pencil, trace completely around the pumpkins onto the paper and cut the tracing out with scissors.
Ok, now to transfer those adorable pumpkins faces! First, trace the cut piece of scrapbook paper onto piece of vellum and cut out the vellum. Now take the cut piece of vellum and place it over the front of the pumpkins. The translucence of the velum lets us trace the pumpkins faces with a pencil.
Next, we have to get the faces onto our scrapbook paper. Working on the back (wrong) side of the scrapbook paper, place the piece of the vellum with the traced facial features face down, so that when you’re looking at the faces, they’re in reverse. Using a pencil and firm stroke, re-trace the facial features over the vellum; the pencil on the front of the vellum will transfer the features to the scrapbook paper.
Use an X-Acto knife with a new blade to carefully cut out the pumpkin features on the scrapbook paper. Hold the paper against the front of the surface to check that everything lines up. I was pretty close, though we can easily cover any little gaps with our outline of glitter glue! Adhere the scrapbook piece to the front of the pumpkin with Mod Podge and let dry. Outline all of the pumpkin features with Stickles glitter glue in black. You can also add a little sparkle to the base with dots of Stickles in orange.
I THOUGHT I was using the video function on my camera to capture the flashing lights, but obviously I did something wrong! ? Well, here’s a still shot of the pumpkins with the lights on – the lights change color, cycling from white, yellow, blue and red, ending with a flashing burst of color.

What a fantastic decoration you made, love this, different and so colorful, happy looking. If it’s supposed to be scarey sorry, just looks really cute and happy to me.
