Make a super sparkly, sequined tabletop USA! Grab a stand-up wooden USA, white paint and a bag of red, white and blue sequins, and you can create a tabletop tribute to the country as bright and full of sparkle as fireworks! Use for the 4th and to cheer our USA Olympians in August!
Adding red, white and blue to our homes for the 4th of July is so much fun, and this year, with the summer Olympics in early August, I’m so excited that we can keep the patriotic décor right through summer. As soon as I spotted this wooden USA at Hobby Lobby, it was in my cart faster than you can say July 4th – or gold medal! I wanted to bling this baby out just like a sky full of fireworks! A few bags of red, white and blue sequins were just what we needed – also at Hobby Lobby!
First, I gave the letters a few coats of white acrylic paint. Once that once done, it was time to sequin! Now, I know what you must be thinking – I must have lost my patriotic mind to bling this out with individual sequins. ? It was not at all difficult to do and I finished adding the sequins in an afternoon. The secret weapons? Gem-Tac glue, a pair of tweezers and toothpicks. Pour some glue onto a paper plate, – I keep a big pile of inexpensive paper plates just for glue, paints, glitter, etc. – hold a sequin with the tweezers and add a small amount of glue to the sequin back with a toothpick. Place the sequin on the surface. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Seriously, it goes much fast than it sounds! Start by outlining the letter, overlapping the sequins.
Once the outline is complete, fill in the remaining letter. Once you’re done, it looks all sparkly like this!
I made each letter a different color, though you could mix the red, white and blue and that would look amazing, too! I just LOVE how this turned and think it was totally worth an afternoon, because I’ll not only use this all summer, I’ll use it every single year.
Mr. Smarty Pants has been joking that he needs to wear sunglasses when he walks by this USA sign. It IS like a bright beacon on the hall table, even in the dark! I’m proud to let our country shine!
