No, I haven’t decided to try a Sci-Fi inspired make-up look and there’s no silver eyeshadow broken in the bottom of my bag. When I heard some buzz about a product by Mario Badescu called Silver Power, which is said to help unclog congested pores and fight stubborn blackheads, I had to give it a try! Today I’m sharing my early reviews.
The product comes in a 1 oz. jar as a white powder and should be used once or twice a week. How to use? Soak a cotton ball in water, squeeze out the excess water so it is just damp and dip the dampened cotton ball into the powder. Press the powder on your nose, chin and any congested area of the face. Leave the powder on for 10 minutes and wipe off with toner or astringent.
I’m in my third week of using the product and so far, I am seeing results on my nose, which has been an incredibly difficult area for me with blackheads. In my super scary, high magnification mirror, I can see that the pores look a little smaller and blackheads appear to be less noticeable. Positive signs! I have been using it on selected areas on my cheeks and have not yet seen any noticeable difference; however, I believe whatever it lurking in the pores of my cheeks is much deeper into the skin and I’m willing to give this product my “use to the bottom of the jar” philosophy.
I did a little checking first into the product ingredients, which are calcium carbonate, kaolin and zinc oxide. I was unfamiliar with Kaolin, which is a fine, white clay, hence the oil absorbing properties. Kaolin is used in a lot of other applications, including porcelain. Hey, if this powder can give me porcelain skin, I’m buying it by the caseload!
Seriously, though, a few things to keep in mind if you try Silver Power. While I have very sensitive skin, my skin is also extremely oily. This product is quite drying, so use it sparingly on very dry skin AND be sure to moisturize after removing. I may be applying too much powder, as I’ve found it a little difficult to remove. Definitely follow the instructions and use astringent or toner to remove. Most important tip: do not, under any circumstance, use near your eyes or mouth! According to Cosmeticsinfo.org, Kaolin is FDA approved for use in cosmetics but “not allowed to be used in products intended for the lips or eye area.”
It looks to me as though Silver Powder will last for some time and at $12.00 for a 1 oz. jar, it’s a great bargain, especially if we get great results. At the end of the day, my friends, that’s what it really all comes down to, doesn’t it? Results!
I will keep you posted on my progress with Mario Badescu’s Silver Powder. Have you tried this product? We would love to hear your experience and results, so please share with us if you are using it!
It’s fun celebrating all of our own unique beauty and how to take care of it on Wednesdays! Hope your Wednesday is beautiful!

Interesting product. I get blackheads and breakout bad on my chest. I started using the Clinique Acne Solutions bar and it is working pretty good but I know there is always junk left behind in the pores. Thanks for sharing info about this product!
Hi Julie, it’s different, for sure! If only there was a little high-suction Hoover made for our pores, wouldn’t that be awesome! We’ll see what this does over the long-term! I always appreciate your visits and comments. Hope you are getting through your busy week – it’s Friday tomorrow! ?
