Black-Tie Pumpkins

Go glam this Halloween – create glittery Black-Tie Pumpkins! White foam pumpkins get an elegant black and white look, encrusted with sequins, rhinestones and flat-backed pearls. Top off the glitz by adding glitter to the pumpkin stems in white and black. Perfect for a Halloween party or to add an upscale holiday look to any room!

Last week, I mentioned that I was going pretty sparkly this holiday season and that starts with Halloween! I absolutely love making things for Halloween and you know I’m mad about my sparkle and shine. ? Real pumpkins are awesome for carving, but I just adore foam pumpkins because you can decorate them and use them every Halloween. You know what I do each year? I try to buy about a half-dozen foam pumpkins in different sizes and colors when they go on sale, so I have them for the next season.

I used the smaller foam pumpkins for this project, both in white. For the first pumpkin, I used 8 mm black sequins, flat-backed pears and rhinestones, both in different sizes. I ordered the pearls from Amazon; the sequins came from Hobby Lobby and the pumpkins and rhinestones from Michaels. Everything was attached to the pumpkin with Gem-Tac glue. It helps to use craft tweezers to hold the sequin, pearl or rhinestone; add a small amount of glue to the back and place on the pumpkin. I made sections of each embellishment until the pumpkin was covered.

The other pumpkin is all sequined! I used 10 mm white sequins and 8 mm black sequins, to create a black and white pattern. Work in a circular pattern, going horizontally around the pumpkin to add the sequins, or create your own pattern!

To complete the glam look, I add glue to the pumpkin stems and added black glitter to the sequined pumpkin, and white glitter to the gem pumpkin. Use an old make-up brush to wipe away excess glitter that falls on the sequined or gemmed areas of the pumpkin. Spray the glittered stems with some clear acrylic to keep the glitter in place. Well, at least partly – no matter how I try, I always seem to leave glitter in my path!

These pumpkins take a bit of time, but don’t you think the effort was well worth it? I just love how these turned out! I know my daughter wants these, though she just might have to wait until I can make another set for her, because I SO don’t want to part with these pretty sparklers.
