There is truly nothing quite like the beauty of Spring, when Mother Nature dons her stunning new wardrobe of fresh, beautiful green, accessorized with the silky petals of whites, pinks, reds, and more. Though the absolute splendor of that perfect Spring green is fleeting, I so look forward to it every year. To me, Spring represents the promise of new beginnings, fresh starts, discovery, adventures and getting out into the garden!
I love my garden – it’s not huge, but it is really all garden. One thing about gardens – they are always a work in process. I’ve been working on mine for 15 years and I’m always changing things. That’s the fun and beauty of gardening. Oh yes, I’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way! I’ve learned a few things, too and look forward to sharing the joys, trials and sometimes just plain funny lessons learned through dirt, worms, foliage and flowers.
My poor garden was sadly neglected last year with both sad and happy things that kept me away from it. So I have my work cut out for me this year! Today, I thought I’d share a few photos of my garden and we’ll see what develops this year together!
I love this tree – it was here when we moved in. We are not 100% percent certain what species it is, but right now, has lots of beautiful, pink blooms.
The leaves are an amazing bi-colored almost gold and chartreuse green! Unfortunately, it probably gets too much sun, so the leaves start to look a little ragged by July. This is how it looks fully leafed out.
We LOVE our Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar! I think this tree gets a bad rap…so many people think they are really ugly. Left to their own devices, they can look rather unattractive. With the right staking, training and pruning, they can be magnificent! We call it our umbrella tree. With blue-green needles, this evergreen can grow up to 10 feet tall and 20 feet wide, depending on how it is pruned and staked. It requires full sun and grows best in Zones 6-9. It is a slow grower, about 1 ½ feet per year. This bad boy does require some super duper pruning each year! We’ve had a lot of birds nest in it every year and have been chased away by many anxious Mama birds. I really need to make a “Bird Crossing” sign!
Our little pond is fun – my little fish are just realizing it’s Spring and are ready to eat! These are just plain old goldfish and we’ve had these guys for over 10 years! I’m always amazed how they winter over and are there to greet us in the Spring.
The lilacs are just starting to develop! The smell of lilacs is simply amazing, don’t you think?
It looks red in this photo, but I adore my bright pink, glass gazing ball. This is how my garden looked two Springs ago – a lot has changed and more to come! Of course, we’ll be visited by the fun, fun, fun cicadas here in the mid-Atlantic soon. I know they’re harmless, but am not a fan of them landing on me. Their arrival just might create a garden delay….we’ll see!
Can’t wait to share all the glories of the garden! What is your favorite thing about Spring and gardening? We’ll definitely be talking gardens and plants and flowers on Facebook – you ARE with us there, right? No? Well, we are SO missing you over there, so bring your pretty little self over and join us here!
Happy Friday and thank you for letting me share a little Spring garden celebration with you! Have the best weekend and plant something!

Isn’t it beautiful to see spring unfold in a garden? Lovely pictures!
It is, Danni! I just love when everything starts to grow and bloom. Thank you so much for your wonderful visits and comments – happy weekend!
Taking my breath away, Cindy! We live a bit in a higher elevation (almost 7,000 ft.) and I can’t wait until everything starts to bloom. I’m excited to start my planting of veggies and such. But not until after Memorial Day. Have a happy friday, Cindy!
Wow, Gloria, that is definitely a high elevation! I wait to plant a lot things in May, too, because you never know when a cold snap might make an unwelcome appearance! Thanks so much for visiting, as always! Have a wonderful weekend!
Your gardens are beautiful Cindy! I can’t wait to have some time to get out into mine… We always have such big ideas planned over long cold winter evenings sitting by the fire… then the weather breaks and those big ideas become very long lists… we shall see what we get done and what becomes food for next winters musings…
Cynthia, thank you so much for your sweet comment and visit. Those to-do lists get really long, but sitting by the fire and planning sounds absolutely heavenly. Have a wonderful week!
Just beautiful! I love the pond too – I’ve always wanted a Koi pond, ? How do the goldfish make it in Winter? That’s so neat that you have had them 10 years – wow!
Pinning. ?
xo,
Claire
Thanks, Claire! We feed the fish a different kind of food until the temp drops below 50 degrees and they go into a hibernation state over the winter. It always amazes me! Thanks for stopping by and for the pin! ?
Beautiful!
Thanks, Julie!!
Everything is just gorgeous!!
XO
Kristin
Kristin, thank you so much!! Have a wonderful week!
What a lovely garden! Spring is finally here in the Pacific NW and I couldn’t be happier. Although our lawn needs to be mowed about every other day with all the rain in between sun breaks here ? I can’t wait to get some hanging baskets up…yours is gorgeous.
Sherry, it is so sweet of you to visit and thanks so much for your kind comment!
Gorgeous colors…I love Spring…as long as my allergies stay @ bay…so far so good! You have a beautiful garden! We have a ton of Oak trees that are just losing their leaves with the new buds pushing them out. We also have some Daffodils coming up…that’s about it around here! Tulips and Lilly of the Valley are next!
Julie, I have allergies, too, so am sympathetic! Lilly of the Valley smells heavenly, doesn’t it? Thank you so much for your visit and sweet comment!
Wow, gorgeous pictures! I have a dogwood, but it’s in a pot ’cause I just don’t have the room in the ground. I do have two lilacs, though, and they’re definitely one of my favorite spring plants. Glad I happened upon your blog. Off to poke around a bit….
Hi Mindy! The smell of lilacs is wonderful, isn’t it? Thank you so much for your visit and sweet comment – I’m happy to found your way here! So wonderful to meet you and hope to see you again soon. Have a wonderful week!
I love gardening, Cindy. And like you, I find I learn so much from it, both personally and practically. Your plants are gorgeous and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it.
Sharon, it’s so nice of you to leave a comment. Hurrah, we can swap gardening tips and stories! It is fun, isn’t it? Even the mistakes are kind of fun, because they give us good stories ? and we learn a lot! Love having a fellow gardening friend!
