Is there a family member or friend who’ll be flipping the tassel this spring? Make a Mason Jar Gift for the Grad! A smooth Mason jar gets paint and sparkle in the grad’s school colors and is decorated with graduation best wishes. Fill the jar with words of wisdom and wishes for the next chapter in their life, rolled and tied like diplomas – don’t forget to add some money, too!
Graduation season is just about here! High school, college, grad school – it’s the time of year to celebrate the graduate! A Mason jar is great way to share some words of wisdom and wishes with the new grad AND give them a welcome gift of $$ in a fun way that let’s their school colors fly into their future. This Mason jar is for our daughter, who will be graduating from college at the end of May.
Start with a smooth Mason jar – I picked up mine at Michaels. Grab some multi-surface or gloss paint in your grad’s school colors. Our grad’s colors are black and gold. Use Frog Tape to tape off sections you want to paint. I did one section in black and one in gold, each section about 2” wide. I left the top of the jar unpainted.
You all know how much I love Stickles! Add a little sparkle to the unpainted top section with dots of Stickles; I used gold and black. You can even add a line a Stickles around the painted sections for some extra shine.
Add some fun graduation embellishments to the jar – search the scrapbook section at Michaels! Jolee’s Boutique has a great set of ribbon stickers with wonderful sentiments for the grad – like Flip the Tassel! I also found some fun graduation balloon stickers and added on the front of the jar. Tie some ribbon and big bow around the jar in the same school colors. Cut some slips of paper to write message to the grad; words of wisdom, wishes for their future, funny sayings, whatever you want! Roll the paper and tie with ribbon. Do the same thing with your gift of money.
A metal embellishment from my scrapbooking stash that says “Follow Your Bliss” is definitely something I want my grad to do!
Change out the lid from the Mason jar for a chalkboard lid. Write a message on the lid and add some dots of Stickles. Cut some slips of paper to write message to the grad; words of wisdom, wishes for their future, funny sayings, whatever you want! Roll the paper and tie with ribbon. Do the same thing with your gift of money.
This is a great way for family and friends to join together to gift the grad! Have everyone write something to the graduate and put all the rolled slips, together with any $$ or gift cards, in the jar. The grad will appreciate the gift and I’ll bet they’ll save the jar and read those messages over and over again, even years from now!
Congratulations to all the parents, families and 2015 graduates! Celebrate their fabulous accomplishments and enjoy this special time.

Cindy, this Grad Gift is the cutest thing ever! I think my favorite part is the rolled up $$ and messages. The money is fun, of course, but I’m like you, I really can see those messages becoming sweet keepsakes. ♥ Thank you for sharing this with us at Treasure Box Tuesday- pinned! ?
Very cute! I have several grads this year to make gifts for. Thanks for the idea and sharing on Merry Monday.
