First, happy St. Patrick’s Day! Wishing all of my dear readers and friends luck, love and happiness the whole year through! Back in January, I talked about tackling disorganization and some of the areas I wanted to focus on in 2014. How have I been doing? Honestly…if you were giving me a grade, I’d totally understand if you gave me an F! Paperwork was organized with my Home Organization Binder, but it has been downhill since. I’m getting {trying} to get back on track in the clothing category, and this Ironing Bag Organizer is going to be a big help to me. Perhaps it will help you, too!
You got a peak at this bag during the recent review of my new Durathon iron and today, I wanted to share how I changed up a laundry bag to function as a cute ironing bag organizer. I’m one of those people who iron just about every day. We are all so busy! For me, with working full-time, the blog, family, projects and life, there just isn’t the time for marathon ironing sessions. Rather than keep my clothes to be ironed in a laundry basket, or more likely, in piles somewhere in the bedroom, there’s now a place to keep them in my closet.
I found this great canvas hanging hamper on Amazon for less than $12.00. It’s roomy, has a full zipper in the back for easy access and the best part? It has a hanger, which keeps the bag open and lets me easily hang it in my closet. Here’s how I jazzed it up!
Inspired by the great steam created by my iron, I decided to put the words “Get Steamed” on the bag. I have a remnant of thick, bright pink felt I wanted to use for the letters and I knew the fabric would be too thick to try and cut on my Cricut, so I improvised! Using the Storybook cartridge, I cut the letters out in black cardstock. I played around with the letter sizes a bit and laid the letters out first on the front of the bag to make sure they all fit.
The letters were pinned to the pink felt with straight pins and cut out with fabric scissors.
I used fabric Mod Podge to “glue” the letters to the bag. This was the first time I’ve used fabric Mod Podge and it worked perfectly! I used a foam brush to apply a thin layer to the back of each letter and then firmly pressed each letter in place. I let the letters dry for two hours, as directed. Once the letters were dry, I used a fabric brush to work another thin layer over the front of each letter. This sealed the letters and now the bag can be washed on the gentle cycle.
For a final touch, I used a gray fabric paint pen to draw some swirls and puffs to resemble steam!
I could have just used this bag as is, but I have to tell you, seeing the bold, bright letters is a good reminder to me to put the clothes IN the bag! It’s definitely inspiring me to keep my “to be ironed” clothes a lot more organized.
Do you do iron a little, a lot or not at all? Are you an iron as you go person or do you do it all at once?
I’m working on some fun projects and treats for Easter and I can’t wait to get them finished so I can share them with you!
Thank you so much for visiting today and wear something green!
Sharing at these parties!

Ironing???
? Yup – I’m an ironing addict and have to iron work clothes every day!
Love this idea Cindy… ahh… now if I only ironed. hehe… My husband is the one who does all that at our house. ?
Hi Krista! Ok, if you’re sweet husband ever needs a little more ironing to do…. ? I’m a bit addicted to ironing but definitely not organized about it and this is helping! (I need all the help I can get!) Thanks so much for visiting – hope you have a wonderful first day of spring!
This looks adorable Cindy – I love this idea for keeping your ironing clothes in one spot ? I am usually an iron as you go person – hehe “Get Steamed” is so clever – love how it all came together!
Thanks, Kelly – I’m an iron as you go too, and the piles were getting out of control! It’s really helping to have a clearly defined place to put the “to be ironed” and now it’s tough to come up with an excuse for the piles to be unorganized. Another little baby step in getting organized. ? Thanks so much for stopping by and enjoy the first day of spring!
This is such a cute idea, Cindy! I do try to avoid ironing at all costs, but if I did step outside of the box and start ironing, I’d want one of these. ?
? Thanks, Christy! I have to iron work clothes for all of us just about every day, and this bag, believe it or not, is helping to alleviate a big mess! Thank you so much for visiting – hope you have a happy first day of spring! xo
Very cute!
Thanks, Ashley – even better, it’s solving a big problem for me! Thanks for visiting!
OMG, your bag is so adorable Cindy…but I do not iron!! ? Can I have one just for fun without having to actually iron? LOL
Lisa, you can have one without ironing – I wish I could get away with not ironing! lol…actually, I don’t mind, I find it’s kind of relaxing when I’m not rushed – but when is that these days, I wonder? ? Thanks for visiting!!
