Spring Scene Eggs

March 23, 2015 By Cindy

Hollow paper mache eggs get pretty with paint and embellishments. Create tiny scenes of spring with moss, bunnies and chicks for Spring Scene Eggs that will have everyone taking a peek inside!

My family is calling me the egg master this year! ? It’s true that I absolutely love decorating eggs. The sugar Easter eggs with the little scenes inside were always my favorite as a child – remember the Foam Sugar Egg from last year? When I saw these hollow paper mache eggs at Create For Less, I had to have them! Let your spring creativity run wild – these blank paper mache eggs are open inside and give us all kinds of fun decorating options. These cute spring scene eggs can be part of your springtime décor beyond Easter. Here’s how I took my eggs from plain to spring pretty!

First, I gave each egg a few coats of paint, using blue, white & yellow. Small felt flowers with blue rhinestone centers were added to the blue egg, dots of yellow Stickles went all over the yellow egg and I went a little Stickles wild on the white egg, adding stripes and dots in a rainbow of spring colors.

A small piece of moss was hot glued inside of each egg and sheer, dotted ribbon bow was attached to the top of each egg with a bit of hot glue. Inside the blue egg, I placed a tiny white bunny with a small flower and a little gem – that’s the bunny’s Easter egg!

The white egg got two tiny, fluffy chicks and a pink gem egg. A sparkly sun, cut on my Cricut, is glued to a toothpick and to the top inside of the egg.

Inside of the yellow egg is another little bunny. A piece of sparkly, curly spring pick was cut and arched inside the egg and a few gems were glued to the stem. A small paper flower was added, because the bunny might get hungry, lol.

Speaking of curly spring picks, I made the “tree” with two picks from Hobby Lobby in green and blue. Just put some Styrofoam in a metal bucket, (mine is from Target) stick in the picks and you’ve got an instant sparkly, spring tree to hold your pretty eggs!

Don’t you think this is just so bright, happy and bursting with spring? I think I’ll add a few of my PomPom eggs to this tree to really deck it out for Easter!

Love these, Cindy! My grandmother made eggs like this back in the 70’s with her best friend. They chipped away the front side of the egg and made elaborate scenes inside. They also made many with religious themes and hung them on a special tree at their church. Wish I had these! I’m pinning and sharing on FB today.

Next year I plan on creating an Easter egg tree for our children. These would be a perfect DIY Spring craft and look precious on the tree!
