Get a jump start on holiday decorating or gift giving with easy, Liquid Pearl Ornaments! Plain, glass ornaments are easily bejeweled with just a squeeze of dimensional, liquid pearls. Top each ornament with a bow to complement the pearl colors and finish with a simple ribbon for hanging. Once December rolls around, you’ll be all set for an ornament exchange, hostess gifts or have some new baubles to hang on your tree!
My new friends and readers will discover how much I LOVE Halloween and Christmas in the coming months! It’s always fun to do a Christmas in July project. As I’ve been battling my yucky summer cold this past weekend, I’ve been watching every moment of Hallmark’s Christmas Keepsake Week. This was the perfect week to share a holiday project. Remember my liquid pearl eggs at Easter? This time, we’re using liquid pearls to take glass ornaments from plain to fancy! Right after Christmas last year, Michaels was selling mystery “grab bags” with clearance holiday items and you know there was no way I could resist that! One of my bags had a few dozen glass ornaments inside, so I figured there was no time like July to start transforming them.
Liquid pearls are fun and easy to use, plus they are available in lots of colors! You can buy liquid pearls in packs of three at Michaels or for more individual color choices; they’re available at Create for Less. All you need to do is squeeze to get a dimensional pearl that adheres right to the glass. Practice first on some scrap paper to get the hang of it, though in no time you’ll be covering ornaments in pearls large and small. If you place the ornament in a glass, you can work hands-free. Work in sections at a time until the pearls are dry – they dry in less than an hour. Once the pearls are dry, make bows that complement the color of the pearls and add to the ornament cap with quick-dry tacky glue.
Make a simple hanger for your ornaments by threading ribbon through loop and tying in a knot. Now, they’re ready to hang on the tree, a wreath or tuck into a gift box! I made my ornaments in blue, white, silver, bronze and blue. Actually, I had a pretty gold one, too. Unfortunately, it was casualty when it crashed to floor while I was setting up for photos. Well, I have a lot more glass balls so making another will not be a problem!
Aren’t they pretty? I pulled out one of my pre-lit trees I use on my front porch and I love how the light shines through the liquid pearl ornaments. After going on four years, Mr. Smarty Pants is getting the hang of blog things…he didn’t bury the trees in the back of storage! I’m going to make a set of these ornaments for each of my children for Christmas and some more for my office friends.
Is anyone else watching Christmas Keepsake week on Hallmark? What’s your favorite Hallmark holiday movie? I’d love to hear!!! It’s almost impossible for me to pick a favorite, I love them all! I really loved one from a few years ago called “Catch a Christmas Star.” I absolutely loved the music and story.
Thank you for letting me share a little touch of holiday spirit with you today! I’m thinking of ways to decorate all of these glass ornaments, so we’ll see what I come up with later this year. Have a happy Monday!
