During the holidays, we ALL like quick and easy, right? Let’s make a quick, easy, fun (and inexpensive) wreath package topper – plus I have a few suggestions for some other great ways to use these little wreaths. This is a great craft to do with the kids! They can help wrap the rings and roll the “flowers,” which are simply made from chenille stems!
I had a bunch of these chunky, wooden rings and wanted to do something with them. Now, I like my wreaths and my tree as big and fat as possible! YOU might want them a little less thick – so use any wooden ring or even a plastic curtain ring. For this project, we’re using pine stems. They’re just like chenille (pipe cleaner) stems, but look just like pine! I decided to go with traditional red and green this year, though you can do these in any color scheme you like!
Here’s what we need for one wreath:
- Wooden or plastic ring (mine measures 3”)
- Pine stems (If you can’t find them at your local craft store, they are available at Factory Direct Craft.com)
- Red Chenille Pipe Cleaners (or your color choice)
- Red ¾” Satin Ribbon (or your color)
- Red Braid Cord (or your color)
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Stocks
Simply wrap the pine stem around the ring. Since they are wired, you don’t have to glue or anything! Just keep wrapping stems until the entire ring is covered. My fat little ring took 6 stems.
Roll your red chenille stem from one end in a tight circle 4 or 5 times until you have a little chenille flower. Trim and tuck the end under if needed. I used 5 chenille flowers – three were rolled 5 times and 2 were rolled 3 times, to vary the sizes.
Make a simple bow from your red ribbon. Hot glue (if you are doing this with little ones, of course you’ll do the gluing!) the chenille flowers around the wreath, leaving room at the top for the bow. Cut a fairly long piece of cord (or ribbon) – you’ll use this to tie the wreath to a package – and tie around the top center of the wreath.
Hot glue your bow to the center top of the wreath – and you’re done!
I love making special, little toppers for my holiday packages. I have something else in mind for these wreaths, which I’ll share with you soon! Here are some other ways you can use these cute, little wreaths:
Tie it on a gift bag.
Knot off the cord and hang it on the tree.
Glue it to the top of a plain white cookie box for instant wow!
Tie it around a glass jar filled with goodies.
Switch out the cord for clear fishing line and suspend them from the ceiling or a window.
Put one in clear gift bag with some candy, add a pretty bow and a jingle bell and give it as an ornament gift!
Quick, easy, fun, cute – a package topper, ornament or gift!
How are you coming with decking the halls? The inside of my house looks like a North Pole explosion – but we completely finished the outside yesterday! Can’t wait to share all the decorating I’m doing with you!
