Wrapping Paper Roll Snowman Candles

November 11, 2013 By Cindy

I’m tossing a few glittery snowflakes into the air today and am excited to officially kick off the Christmas season at Little Miss Celebration! It was my family calling me “Little Miss Christmas” that became the inspiration for the blog name. I am crazy about Christmas! I absolutely love snowmen and have collected, hmm, kind of a lot over the years! For our first Christmas project of the season, it had to be a snowman – big, happy Wrapping Paper Roll Snowman Candles to bring a little light and a lot of seasonal cheer! These cost hardly anything to make for a lot of charming impact!

The Halloween Toilet Paper Roll Candles were my inspiration – they were so much fun to make. We’re going a little bigger this time – snowmen with presence! This time, I used a roll from (Christmas) wrapping paper, along with the battery operated tea lights. It’s totally ok to swipe out the cardboard tube from a roll of wrapping paper! Each snowman candle is 12” tall, so I measured from each end of the wrapping paper roll and cut two 12” tubes. I cut the rolls and taped them to fit around the tea lights so that the lights can be removed and turned on/off.

Each roll was covered in thick, white wool felt. The hats were made by first cutting a 3” wide piece of black felt and gluing around the top of the tube. Next, I cut 4-1/2” circles from black felt for the brims. I cut another circle in the center, just large enough so that the brim will slide over the tube and hold without glue. The center circle is a bit less than 2”. Now we have the hats!

After debating with myself for way longer then made any sense (I get like that a lot!) I decided to use goggle eyes. I made some black felt eyebrows. Now, what to do for the nose instead of a carrot? I looked into this container of holiday buttons I bought last year and it hit me! An orange Christmas bulb button would make a perfect nose!! I made a small slit in the felt and punched a tiny hole in the cardboard tube where I wanted to place the nose. A little hot glue and we have a holiday snowman nose! A little bit of pink chalk and he’s got some rosy, winter cheeks!

Look at that face! This has to make you smile back!

The snowmen have to be decked out for the holiday! I made big bowties out of red and white striped, wired ribbon and attached with hot glue. For a little dash of style, I used patterned black and white buttons below the bow ties. To give their hats the final holiday touch, I added a few springs of evergreen and a red berry. Pop in the candles and these happy, frosty friends are ready to light up for the Christmas season.

I absolutely LOVE these guys! What do you think? They are so totally adorable and I can’t wait to add them to my snowman table! Who else is a snowman lover? I have another cute snowman project in the works! Great thing about snowmen – we can use them all winter long! Hopefully, you can see the little tea lights on here – it doesn’t look like their hats are on fire, does it? 😉

  18. Paula says

    November 12, 2013 at 11:09 am

These are so stinking cute, Cindy!! Planning to make them with my boys! And there doesn’t need to be a base on there, I’m thinking by the time my boys crush the bottom a couple of time our’s may be wobbly… let me know if you suggest something. Pinned and planning…

    • Cindy says

      November 13, 2013 at 7:46 am

Thanks, Paula – I’m so happy that you want to make these! You could definitely add a base to these – I would cover either a piece of wood or thick chipboard with white felt and attach the snowman to the base. You could even puddle the felt around the bottom so it looks as though he’s in a pile of snow! 🙂 What do you think?

These are so darn cute. My little Valerie would put these by her bedside. Right now she has an ottoman and put it next to her bed (yes she stole my new teal one) and she put Sylvia’s cat bed on it and set 2 of these no flame candles on it. Sylvia seems to enjoy every minute of it 🙂 Pinning!

      November 13, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Hi Julie – thank you so much! Well, the ottoman didn’t last too long in the livingroom! 🙂 (I would have stolen it, too!) Thank you so much for visiting and for the pin! Hope you are having a happy week!
